Saddle Brook Police Department
Traffic Safety Unit

In early 2003, Chief Robert Kugler authorized the formation of a Traffic Safety Unit within the Patrol Division of the department.  The unit is made up of three (3) officers: Lt James Martinelli, Sgt. Christopher Mamone, and PO. John Tritto. All the officers have received training in accident reconstruction through Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety. In addition, Lt. Martinelli has advanced training and is currently a member of the Bergen County Fatal Accident Response Team.

Currently the officers are assigned various duties specifically targeting traffic issues, both vehicular and pedestrian. These assignments can include, but are not limited to, traffic surveys, motor vehicle inspection detail, traffic enforcement,  and input into roadway reconstruction / design projects.  The assignments are performed in addition to the officers required patrol duties.
