A tradition born many years ago continues, as members of the Saddle Brook Police Department run with the Special Olympics Torch. Their efforts are not only symbolic of the start of the Annual Special Olympics NJ Summer Games, but it also is a fund raiser.  The NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run raises more money for Special Olympics than any other torch run around the world.  Our officers take the torch and run approximately 1.4 miles before handing it off to to representatives of another department towards its final destination of the Summer Games in Trenton. In total, over 2,700 officers will run over 900 miles that day in support of Special Olympics NJ.

On Friday, June 10, 2011 officers of the Saddle Brook Police Department ran down Market Street from the TD Bank at the Elmwood Park border to the Lodi border in the 28th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics NJ. This annual event is designed to raise money and awareness for the programs of Special Olympics NJ in an effort to assist those residents of NJ with special needs. Residents and people from businesses along the route came out supporting our runners and their cause. This year also saw the addition of runners from TD Bank who not only donated money but also their effort in the run itself for the entire 17 mile portion of the South Bergen leg.

There is pretty much nothing we will not do to raise money and awareness for our friends, the special needs athletes of New Jersey. We have gone as far as running a very successful dodgeball tournament for the past two years, with all proceeds going towards our campaign for Special Olympics NJ.
