
The Patrol Bureau accomplishes its task by operating a fleet of six (6) marked patrol cars ( 4 - Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors and 2 - Dodge Chargers) on a 24 hour schedule. The division is divided into three rotating shifts. Each shift works a tour of duty (either 8am-4pm or 4pm - Midnight or Midnight - 8am) for six consecutive days before receiving three days off. After a second tour of the same duty, the shift rotates one tour forward. It takes fifty-four (54) days for an officer to complete a complete cycle of tours.

Police work is demanding. It possible
to go from the boredom of tedious routine work to the excitement of a high
speed pursuits back to the boredom in a single shift. Police work is one
of the few occupations where it is the job of the individual to not only
seek out the worst parts of our society, but also to attempt to solve some
of their problems.
