In 1996, under the direction of Chief of Police Robert Kugler, a Ceremonial Honor Guard was established for the Saddle Brook Police Department. Sgt. Richard Lasiw (ret) was given the task of organizing, training, and presenting the Honor Guard. The Honor Guard made its initial appearance in the 1996 Saddle Brook Memorial Day Parade. Since its initial appearance, the Honor Guard has appeared at ceremonies including DARE culminations, parades, law enforcement funerals, Giant Stadium and various memorial ceremonies.

VFW Post #3484 (Saddle Brook) donated $15,000 to the department to outfit the honor guard in its own uniforms,
separate and distinct from the formal uniform of the department.
