In cooperation with the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the Saddle Brook Police Department has entered into an agreement to set up and maintain a Domestic Violence Response Team. The D.V.R.T.'s are made up of community volunteers that assist victims of Domestic Violence during the initial phases of the crisis. The volunteers are trained in a 40 hour minimum mandatory course. Funding for the program was obtained through grants. Lt. William Byrnes Jr. is the Department's Domestic Violence coordinator and liaison to the Prosecutor's Office and the response team along with PO. Douglas Habermann.
The police department successfully implemented the program in June 2001. This made Saddle Brook one of the first municipalities in the State to comply with the mandate for such programs to combat the cycle of domestic violence at this time.
